By remapping the delivery of power in the shape of a building wave rather than a concentrated burst, Infiniti engineers have re-imagined the connection between acceleration and exhilaration. This progressive rush is designed to give you the feeling of unlimited power. Providing it is the remarkable VQ high-response engine, named one of Ward's Automotive Group's "10 best" engines 13 years in a row [*=Wards Automotive Group GSedan]. Completely reengineered, this powerful V6 produces 326 horsepower, revving to a 7,000-rpm redline (G25 is available with 218 horsepower at 6,400-rpm). New G37 include variable valve timing (VVEL) on both intake and exhaust valves (VVEL is not available on G25). A twin symmetric air intake system increases airflow by 18% for improved power output. Channelling the air around rather than through the radiator reduces air temperature, further boosting the engine's power. The perfect symmetry of the new exhaust system includes equal-length manifolds that reduce backpressure by 25% and are the source of the pleasing sound generated throughout the engine’s entire rev range.
High front fender peaks channel airflow over the vehicle or around the sides, while the deep-set hood presents a low profile to the wind. Even the underbody of the vehicle has been designed to minimise turbulence. The result is the total elimination of front lift and 0.29 coefficient of drag.
Electronically controlled 7-speed automatic with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) and Drive Sport (DS) mode. Manual shift mode offers sequentially selectable manual gearshifts and Downshift Rev Matching (DRM).
Both the front and rear suspension display increased lateral stiffness, improved geometry and the use of lightweight aluminium for better feel and response. Increased brake size and redesigned calipers on the G push out the performance parameters, giving you more nuanced control. And, with 16% more welds than the previous generation G, torsion rigidity has been significantly increased. By letting the suspension do the work, handling is more predictable, giving the driver more control.
